Happy Birthday to Michelle Obama!
She has become a symbol of modern American style to the world and an inspiration for what African American women can do. While living in a fish bowl she’s creating the most exciting fashion legacy the White House has seen since Jacqueline Kennedy during the age of Camelot. The signature style of Lady O is uniquely Michelle – Sleeveless dresses that show off her guns, kitten heels, tailored dresses, flowing gowns, cardigan sweaters, brilliant colors, prints and a modern bob hairdo.
First Lady Michelle Obama is a powerhouse of style. Wearing the garments of unknown designers like Jason Wu, Tracey Reese, Isabel Toledo and many others launched their careers and turned them into household names. She’s even made J Crew chic! Harvard Business Review estimated she could boost a company’s stock 16 percent by wearing its clothes. She’s the first African American female style icon outside of the entertainment industry.
What I admire most about her is who she has become – She is powerful yet gracious, well-educated yet unpretentious, chic yet down to earth, she’s a genuine woman of substance and she appears to be a warm and loving wife and mother. I can relate to that.
In-case you didn’t know it Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is the wife of the 44th and current President of the United States, Barack Obama, and the first African-American First Lady of the United States, mother of two daughters Sasha and Malia. She was a practicing attorney and writer before her husband was elected President in 2008.
