The City of Lights has set the standard for luxury living. Parisians do luxury in outstanding ways.
There’s a grandeur to the architecture that surrounds you in Paris. History is everywhere you step. It’s common for Parisians to live and work in buildings that are centuries old and that includes the hotels you might sleep in as a tourist. Renovation, restoration and modernizing historic architecture is continuously taking place. These recent renovations to landmark Paris luxury hotels are stellar.
Hôtel Plaza Athénée Paris
The Hôtel Plaza Athénée opened in 1913. Its’ history and location has proclaimed it to be the haute couture hotel of Paris. I walked past the Hôtel Plaza Athénée Paris about once week when I lived there to visit my favorite fashion street, Avenue Montaigne. The hotels’ signature red awnings greet you at the street inviting you into luxury.
The top to bottom renovation of Hôtel Plaza Athénéé cost 200 million Euros (~ $220 million USD). The suites have a picture perfect views of the Effiel Tower. I guess that’s why Carrie Bradshaw of “Sex in the City” stayed there.
Let’s take a look.

Hilton Paris Opera
Hilton Paris Opera opened in 1889 as the Hotel Terminus for the 1900 Worlds Fair.
I’ve stayed at this Paris luxury hotel many times because of its’ location near the Opéra Garnier, the Champs-Elysées, and the fabulous Galeries Lafayette department store.
Get ready to take pictures I remember my kids loving seeing the Mazerati’s, and Bentley’s drive up.

La Réserve Paris Hotel and Spa
La Réserve Paris Hotel and Spa is set in peaceful spot of Paris close to overlooking the Grand Palais and Place de la Concorde. It was built in 1854 as a private mansion and was once owned by famed designer Pierre Cardin.

This Haussman styled mansion turned boutique hotel has rooms fashioned in the style of the Belle Époque.
To return the hotel to it’s prior glory more than 120 artisans were involved with the renovation producing it’s antique furniture, velvet-clad lampshades, damask and silk taffeta drapes, cordovan leather upholstery in regal colors, and light fixtures.
La Réserve Hotel Library is dressed in velvet, silk and rich gilding wood.
Lounge at La RéserveHotel Paris
If you love what you see and have a Beyonce sized purse you can rent an apartment at La Réserve Hotel for an extended stay. I’m just saying.
A glaring difference between the United States and Europe, and France in particular is how much they appreciate historic centuries old architecture. Unlike in America, it’s common for the French to live and work in buildings that are hundreds of years and centuries old.
I’m so glad these landmark luxury Paris hotels have been lovingly restored and I could share a sample of the work with you.
I hope you have enjoyed they tour. It gives you a new perspective on the beauty and grandeur of age.
Until next time …
